Pain Control

The doctors make every effort to administer a painless injection.  They use a topical local anesthetic gel first and administer the local anesthetic in a slow, gentle, and comfortable manner, thus reducing any discomfort that may accompany dental treatment. The duration of numbness after treatment varies from patient to patient. Generally the numbness wears off after two to three hours. Parents must be careful to watch their child for chewing or biting of inner cheeks or tongue that can cause them to be injured.  We recommend not letting your child eat anything that they would have to chew while they are still numb.  Ice cream or popsicles are excellent for your child to eat while they are still numb.
