Meet Dr Killin

BACKGROUND

Dr. Killin was raised on the Front Range of Colorado (Colorado Springs, Centennial, and Castle Rock).  She spent her childhood playing on many sports teams, babysitting, and volunteering for Special Olympics.  Her parents, who are both in education, inspired her to choose a career in pediatric dentistry while in college.

EDUCATION

Dr. Killin attended the University of San Diego, where she captained the school's women's lacrosse team and earned her bachelor's degree in Communications.  After working as an orthodontic assistant for two years back in Colorado, she attended the University of Louisville School of Dentistry in Louisville, Kentucky, obtaining her doctor of medical dentistry degree.  During her dental education, Dr. Killin tutored fellow dental students and volunteered extensively for Special Olympics Special Smiles, Give Kids A Smile Day, the Kentucky State Fair Sealant program, and UofL Cares, a fundraising campaign for several nonprofit children's programs.  She was the sole recipient of the 2009 Robert D. Elliott Pediatric Dentistry Award for excellence in scholastic achievement, particularly in the field of pediatric dentistry.

Following her dental school training she was accepted immediately into the pediatric specialty residency at Indiana University in Indianapolis, Indiana.  During her residency at IU, she trained at the Riley Hospital for Children.  Being one of the top children's hospitals in the United States, this afforded Dr. Killin the exceptional opportunity to work with children diagnosed with a wide range of medical conditions and special needs.

During her residency, Dr. Killin still managed to participate in dental mission trips to Mexico, where she performed dental work on Mayan children in the jungles of the Yucatan peninsula.

SPECIALTY COURSES

In addition to being certified in basic life support, she has advanced training in Pediatric Advanced Life Support.  Dr. Killin presented a case report on Dentin Dysplasia at the 2010 American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) Conference in Chicago, IL and then presented her research on the “Development of Subsequent Primary and Secondary Caries in Children Receiving Comprehensive Dental Treatment on Multiple Occasions Under GA” at the 2011 AAPD Conference in New York, NY.

PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS

Dr. Killin is proud to be a member of the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and is Board Eligible by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

PRACTICE PHILOSOPHY

She has always loved working with children and is excited to teach kids and their parents how to care for themselves and learn the importance of not only oral health, but also their overall health.  Dr. Killin understands her important role in establishing habits that will affect her patients throughout their lives and will enable them to be healthy and feel confident.  She is inspired by the idea of making a trip to the dentist not just bearable, but fun!

PERSONAL

Dr. Killin is thrilled to be back in Colorado with her family and friends.  In her spare time, she enjoys running, refereeing high school girls lacrosse, traveling, cheering on the Denver Broncos, and skiing.
