Dr. Ashley Paulus

 

Background

Dr. Paulus was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio.  She spent her summers coaching a youth swim team, lifeguarding, and babysitting.  Dr. Paulus decided in high school that she wanted to pursue the field of pediatric dentistry.

Education

Dr. Paulus attended Sylvania Southview High School.  She went on to get her bachelor's degree in biology from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.  As an undergraduate, Dr. Paulus was elected President of the OSU Chapter of the National Society for Collegiate Scholars.  She then continued her education at OSU obtaining her doctor of dental surgery degree.  During her dental education, she volunteered at "Clinica Latina", a free clinic for the underserved latino population in Columbus.  Dr. Paulus received the 2007 Basch Memorial Scholarship Award, recognizing outstanding competency in communications and patient management, as displayed by humanistic and professional behaviors.  She was 1 of 4 recipients of this prestigious award in the OSU class of 2008.
Immediately after dental school, she attended a two-year pediatric specialty residency at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.  It was in this residency program where she was trained extensively in the art and science that is pediatric dentistry, allowing Dr. Paulus to modify her dental training and adapt it to the special needs of infants, children, adolescents and those with special health care needs.  Most importantly, her experience at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital taught her to utilize critical thinking skills and the importance of a life of continued education.

Specialty Courses

Dr. Paulus is certified in both Basic Life Support and in Pediatric Advanced Life Support.  In her residency, Dr. Paulus conducted a research study titled "A correlation study of diet and dental caries in children with glucose-galactose malabsorption".  She compared the low carbohydrate diets of children with this rare syndrome to their number of dental caries.

Professional Organizations

Dr. Paulus is a member of the Colorado Springs Dental Society, Colorado Dental Society and the American Dental Association.  She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentists and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

Practice Philosophy

Dr. Paulus' goals include reaching out to a population in need and continuing to advocate for pediatric oral health care.  She loves working with children and strives to make each dental experience a great one.  She encourages parents to take an active role in their children's treatment.  As a member of Rocky Mountain Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Paulus strives to set the foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles.

Personal

Ashley and her husband, Brent, an orthodontist, moved to Colorado Springs to enjoy all of the outdoor adventures Colorado has to offer.  In their spare time, they enjoy skiing, being outdoors, traveling, college football, and spending time with their family and friends.
